Every May, we celebrate Women’s Health Month, a time dedicated to empowering women to make their health a priority. At Sutter Health Plan, we recognize the unique health challenges women face across every stage of life — and we’re committed to supporting their wellness journeys with access to high-quality care.
Why Women’s Health Month Matters
Women play vital roles in their families, communities and workplaces. Yet too often, they put the needs of others before their own. Women’s Health Month is a timely reminder to schedule essential screenings, practice healthy habits, and address both physical and mental health concerns.
Covered Preventive Services for Women
Sutter Health Plan members have access to a wide range of preventive services at no cost share, including:
- Annual well-woman visits
- Mammograms for early detection of breast cancer
- Cervical cancer screenings (Pap smears and HPV tests)
- Prenatal and postpartum care
- Contraceptive counseling and birth control
- Screenings for depression, domestic violence and STIs
- Bone density tests for osteoporosis
These services can help detect conditions early — when they’re most treatable — and support overall reproductive and physical health.
Supporting Women’s Mental Health
Mental health is a crucial component of overall wellness, and it’s an area where women can be especially vulnerable. Conditions like anxiety, depression and postpartum mood disorders affect millions of women but often go untreated.
We encourage members to take advantage of their mental health coverage by scheduling confidential, in-person or virtual visits through U.S. Behavioral Health Plan, California (USBHPC).
For 24/7 digital access to confidential, self-paced support for emotional, behavioral and mental wellness, members have access to AbleTo — a free app available through USBHPC — from the App Store or Google Play. On a computer, visit AbleTo.com/begin and select the Get Started button.
Healthy Habits for a Healthier You
In addition to preventive care and screenings, here are a few steps every woman can take to improve her health this month:
- Move regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days.
- Eat balanced meals: Incorporate plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains.
- Stay on top of checkups: Don’t delay routine exams and screenings.
- Practice self-care: Prioritize sleep, stress management and activities that bring joy.
