Whether at home, on vacation or traveling for work, knowing where to access care is essential. Life moves quickly, and health needs can arise without warning. That’s why it’s important for members to be familiar with their healthcare benefits and understand how to get care wherever they are. A quick review of your benefits before traveling can help ensure peace of mind when you’re on the go.
Setting up Digital Connections
Members can set up 24/7 access to conveniently manage their care from anywhere by registering for:
- The Sutter Health Plan Member Portal to view and print member identification cards, which contain important contact and billing information. Benefit and copay information is also available on the portal.
- My Health Online, Sutter’s secure patient portal, to connect with a care team, renew a prescription, or schedule in-person or video visits with a participating Sutter clinician while in California.
Managing Medications
Before heading out on a trip, eligible prescription renewals can be requested through My Health Online. To ensure enough medication while away — especially for those taking maintenance drugs — a vacation override may be requested. This allows for an early refill of up to a 90-day supply. One override per prescription is available every six months, with standard cost sharing applied.
Additionally, Sutter Health Plan members have access to two convenient options to get up to a 100-day supply of maintenance drugs for the same cost of two 30-day supplies, as their benefit plan allows, through:
- The Retail-90 program, available at select pharmacies, including CVS pharmacies. Find a participating pharmacy here.
- CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy for prescription drug delivery with free standard shipping.
For more information about these options, register or log in to the CVS Caremark Member Portal or call CVS Caremark Customer Care at 844-740-0635.
Care That Travels with You
In case of urgent or emergency care needs, members should go to the nearest hospital or medical facility.* If admitted to a hospital outside the Sutter Health Plan network, contact Customer Service within 24 hours (or as soon as reasonably possible) at 855-315-5800. Sutter Health Plan will work directly with the hospital and providers to arrange appropriate payment and, if medically safe, coordinate a transfer to an in-network facility. For immediate medical guidance, registered nurses are available 24/7 at 855-836-3500.
To find the right level of care for any situation, review this Convenient Care flyer for helpful details and guidance.

*When traveling in the Sutter Health Plan service area, we encourage members to access an in-network urgent care facility.
