In 2025, Sutter Health Plan further advanced Sutter Health’s mission to make high-quality, compassionate, and coordinated care more accessible for the people and communities it serves. By strengthening its alignment with Sutter’s integrated network, the health plan further connected coverage with care — creating a smoother, more consistent experience for members, providers, brokers and employers.
“Every decision starts with a simple question: Will this improve access, experience, or outcomes for the people we serve? In 2025, the answer was ‘yes’ — more often and with greater impact — thanks to the strength of our partnerships with brokers and employers, the dedication of our teams, and benefits of being part of Sutter’s integrated network,” said Aparna Abburi, CEO of Sutter Health Plan.
The year marked significant growth and transformation with a new name, Sutter Health Plan, clearly communicating its identity within the Sutter Health family. Later launching a redesigned website with faster navigation and a more intuitive experience, making it easier for brokers, employers and members to find providers, explore products and access key resources.
Operational improvements were a key priority throughout 2025 with the goal of making care easier to navigate, more accessible, and more affordable. The health plan reexamined existing workflows, such as referrals and prior authorizations, to simplify processes for members and improve efficiency for providers. Members, brokers and employers will start to see these enhancements come to life in early 2026.
At the same time, Sutter Health Plan welcomed more than 100 new employer groups and launched new engagement strategies for open enrollment. During the year, the health plan served over 120,000 members, a new milestone. Sutter Health Plan established a broker forum to shape products and messaging and simplify its HMO portfolio to better meet customer needs.
The health plan’s commitment to quality and service remained unwavering. It achieved NCQA Re-Accreditation, affirming its dedication to excellence and continuous improvement, and the health plan also earned a 4 out of 5-star rating by the California Center for Data Insights and Innovation as one of the highest-quality commercial health plans in California. Customer Service expanded its support to include appointment scheduling, reducing member touchpoints and improving convenience.
