Twenty-four Sutter Health Plan network hospital campuses received high grades in the Spring 2025 Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit focused on patient safety. This recognition is awarded to hospitals for their exceptional performance in patient safety and quality of care.
New to Leapfrog this year is the “Straight A” designation, given to hospitals who have received an “A” grade for five or more grading rounds. Mills-Peninsula Medical Center received this recognition, earning an “A” from Leapfrog since spring 2023. Across the nation, only 12% of all eligible hospitals earned this designation.
“Huge congratulations to our network hospital campuses for earning top marks in hospital safety,” says Dr. Robert Bixler, Medical Director at Sutter Health Plan. “These dedicated doctors, nurses and care teams continue to show what true commitment to patient safety looks like — always putting patients first.”

Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. The program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annual, in the fall and spring.
